How to Introduce Your Newborn Baby to Your Pets

Bringing home a newborn baby is always a fun and exciting time as a parent. However, one aspect that many new parents forget about because they are so excited is how are their pets going to react to the new person in the home. I know that for me because I had a hospital stay along with my newborn it was fairly easy to introduce them once I got home because my pets were so excited to see me and my husband completed some of the proper things to get the pets used to seeing my newborn. Here are some of the tips that I found that worked out best for us in introducing our newborn to our pets.

The first thing that you will want to do if it is at all possible is to make sure that you take your pet a blanket or something with your newborns smell on it. I know that for me this was getting a wrap blanket for my husband to take home for our dog to get used to the smell of our son. I found in my experience that if you ask and tell the hospital that you have pets at home they will normally provide you with a blanket to take home for your pets to get used to the scent.

The second thing that you can do to help your pets get used to the idea of someone new coming into the home is that you will want to set up any of the furniture well in advance of the delivery and let your pet into that room so that he can get used to the new furniture before your put the infant into the furniture and he tries to climb into the crib with your infant to see what it is.

Kimberly is a happily married mother of two beautiful children. She also has four dogs and two cats. She had to introduce her newborn son to the pets. If you want even more great information on how to expose your kids to pets you will want to read this great article.
