How to Install WordPress 3.0

With more and more people using WordPress, it's no wonder that those of us that didn't jump on board right away are trying to catch up. After all, it is an extremely powerful tool, not only for bloggers but for anyone who wants to build a web site. However, people seem to be intimidated by all of its features and by all the options that you are given. It just doesn't have to be that intimidating, it's much easier than you think. To help get you started, here's a quick down and dirty guide to installing WordPress.

First thing that you want to do is to log in to your control panel or cpanel through your hosting company. This information is given to you when you sign up with them, so if you don't remember your name or password just check your e-mail. Once you are logged in, scroll down the page until you see a smiley face that says fantastico deluxe. Click on that, and a new menu will open.

If you're having trouble finding Fantastico, contact your hosting company. Pretty much 100% of all hosting companies now have it, so it may just be in a difficult place to find. Once you have opened the Fantastico menu, look at the list of options to the left. These are all various things that Fantastico can install for you, but we are only interested in one. Near the top of the list, you'll see WordPress.

Click on WordPress and the blank space on the right side will change to show you the current WordPress version and what if any you have installed already. Since you do not have anything installed yet, create a username and password and click install now. It should only take a few minutes, and you'll have WordPress installed on your website.

This is the part that confuses a lot of people. Now when you want to edit the WordPress portion of your site, you do not log in through your hosting company. Go to yourwebsite.com/wp-admin and login using the information that you created. Once you have logged in, you can begin to install new themes, create posts, create pages, or just install plugins. There are literally dozens of different things you can do, though it is best to work with one thing at a time until you feel comfortable. After a few weeks, you'll be using WordPress like pro!
