It is fairly common to find guys who seem to have a phobia for making serious commitments in their relationships with us. In case your boyfriend happens to be of this type, you may face a lot of frustrations as your relationship does not appear to move towards the direction you would like.

However, you should not let a good relationship stall due to your guy's indecision. There are a number of things that you can do in order to influence him to take you more seriously than he does at the moment. 

If you do not take the initiative to cure his fear of commitment, you are the one who will develop negative feelings until it will reach a point of resentment. Yet if you know how to go about it, you will be able to make the guy have a change of mind, and be interested in developing a deeper relationship with you. 

A common mistake that many of us do is to try to talk more about such issues as marriage in an attempt to make the guys take appropriate actions. Unfortunately, this usually does more harm than good. If you want your guy to take your relationship more seriously, you will need to avoid talking about marriage at all. If you constantly remind him of how you would like him to say 'I do', you will just succeed in making him go to the defensive. This condition will make it even more difficult for him to accept to propose to you. 

Instead, he will try as much as possible to find some 'breathing space'. So, if you would like to influence your guy to take your relationship to the next level, you should stop all talk about serious commitment.   You need to consider the things that you say when you are with the guy. Are they words that will make him enjoy your company? 

Another important step in encouraging your guy to take things more seriously is to show that you have an independent life. You should not give the impression that your whole life revolves around him. As much as you would like to spend a lot of time with the guy, you should resist the temptation and make some plans that do not take him into consideration.

Being always available for him will not encourage him to take any serious actions. After all, if he can get everything he wants at this stage of the relationship, why should he consider being more serious?   You should plan your life independently, and make him miss your presence in the process. However, you should not go overboard either. This is not the time to start moving around with other guys. In addition, you should not make it appear as if being single is your new-found passion. 

If you let the man realize that you have your own life that goes on without him, he will put more effort to win your affection. Unless the guy does not really mind losing you, he will actually take you more seriously.
