You can put all your effort into using social media, email newsletters or Google AdWords but if your target market doesn't use this format to find information or suppliers, then all your effort is for nothing and you will be wasting your most valuable resource of all, your time!
If you are marketing to larger business or a more traditional business, the chances are you fall into this category, but even if your target is online, the things I am about to share with you are also valuable ways to reach your audience, and a mix of media is recommended for maximum impact.
Remember, just because the media is different, the process is still the same. i.e. you want to gauge their interest before you start marketing to them. As with online marketing, they still need to know, like and trust you before they are ready to buy. Do this by offering them something valuable for free and useful such as your book, CD, DVD or a white paper report. No one knows your target better than you, so try to be original. When they take up your offer, they are indicating that they are interested in what you have to offer so now you can follow up with them. We will cover that in another article, but first let's look at some examples on how you can make the offer in the first place.
Postcards
Postcards are great because they get attention. People can see instantly what the offer is, so as long as you use your imagination and make your offer stand out with clear instructions on how to get it, you will get results.
Try to make your mail look appealing, what is going to get it opened by the right person. Be imaginative, try lumpy mail (you send a little gift to add intrigue), or design your envelop to get attention.
Classified Ads
As long as you have a strong headline that relates to what is in your targets head, you don't need to have a big spread. The important point here is to make sure your advert is in the publications that your target reads rather than a mass publication. Otherwise you are paying to reach thousands of people who are not your target.
Articles
Write an article using powerful headlines, again what information is your target looking for? Contact editors of publications for your target market and get published. Always add a resource paragraph at the end of your article offering your free gift with instructions of how they find out more.
Tradeshows and Exhibitions
Great places to find your target. Either attend as a guest or have a stand. Offer your free gift in return for their details.
These are just a few ideas, but you get the idea.
