Having a group of orchids in the home may seem intimidating; growing orchids indoors is not a big challenge when a few points of preparation are in place. Orchids are no different than another plant. They need food, water and a decent place to call home. Let us take a look at one of the essentials of their care.

Temperature: Temperature might be thought of as the easiest to accomplish. Being indoors we set the thermostat and walk away. Remember it does take a little more effort to get the best conditions for your prize orchids. Setting the correct temperature requires some awareness of the types of orchids in your collection. Most orchids are divided into three categories. These are warm, intermediate and cool growing.

1. Warm varieties want and need the range of degrees to be at night sixty four and day to be seventy two to seventy four degrees. These orchid types can do very well in indirect sun up to eighty degrees.

2. The in-between groups want like sixty degrees at night and sixty eight during the day. These orchids to will tolerate indirect sun to seventy five degrees. The varieties of orchids include Cattleyas and Dendrobiums.

3. Cool growing plants want a temperature range of fifty five degrees at night and sixty five degrees during the day. Again these orchids will take a little more heat during the day but additional shade is required.

Knowledge of the differing temperature ranges can help us to decide which of the orchids to buy for our home. The last thing we want to do is spend our money then find out we made a poor choice. Think about the room or area of the home the orchids will be placed. We can control watering and sunlight, however a constant room temporal climate could be a bigger challenge. Can your room have a thermostat that is regulated by times of day, warmer in the day and cooler at night? Most of us who conserve energy will have our homes on a timed thermostat. However, will the space your orchids call home be the proper range from night to daytime? Temperature can play a role in the orchids flowering. Sometimes we just have to do the best we can and be happy with it. If you can predict the given temperature range, then knowing this will help in the picking out of the best plants to have in your home.
