There are many reasons why you have put on weight; the most common is the fact that you've over-eaten without doing enough exercise to burn the extra-calories. That is why I recommend that, rather than starting a full on diet plan, you just watch what you eat. By this I mean, avoid foods that are high in sugar, such as soda, fruit juice and candy. As a golden rule, anything that taste sweet usually is very high in sugar and thus has excess energy and must be avoided.

You also need to limit proportions; this doesn't mean starving yourself rather eating smaller portions of meals. As a golden rule, for breakfast you can eat as much as you like, however as the day progresses you need to eat less and less. For example, for breakfast eat as much as you want, then for lunch eat less and finally for dinner eat even less.

You'll be surprised that the majority of the weight loss battle has everything to do with what you eat, however if you would like to speed up the process, I recommend that you start exercising. Don't freak out! I don't mean joining a gym or running hundreds of miles each day, instead you should aim to do at least 30 minutes of low-intensity exercise. This could be walking the dog, playing golf or even going for a slow swim.

You will definitely be more inclined to stick with a low-intensity exercise program if it is easy and your body burns more fat during low intensity exercise. This is because your body saves carbohydrates for high-intensity exercise, so if you start running for instance, you will burn carbohydrates and not fat. For this reason, low-intensity exercise such as walk is excellent for anybody that wants to burn fat, lose weight and look great!
