Developing backlinks is extremely important for getting traffic to your website. As equally important is working at getting quality backlinks using your keywords in the anchor text.
Search engine optimization is one way to develop back links and should be something all Internet marketers work harder at.
It is always amazing to me how many people will list their website URL in an article, or in the resource box, and yet will not hyperlink that to their keywords. So how exactly can you go about hyperlinking your keyword phrases to get quality anchor text backlinks?
Whenever a link has the key word in the text of the hyperlink it is called an anchor text link. Very often you see people use words like click here, which is a good action phrase, but is not creating keyword relevancy or creating a text link to that specific web page.
Every Internet marketer should have a list of keyword phrases they are trying to develop their website or blog around. Today this is easier to do thanks to niche marketing yet many Internet business owners do not really understand developing keyword list.
You obviously need a keyword list if you are going to develop backlinks by targeting the proper keyword phrases relevant to your site. There are many free tools that can help you get started including the Google Adwords Keyword tool.
Depending on the competition ranking highly with search engines for certain keyword phrases will be harder than others. Therefore you may want to concentrate on developing longtail keyword phrases in using those as your anchor text.
For example if you're targeting the keyword phrase "Internet business" you will find that's a very competitive phrase. An easier phrase to rank high on a search engine would be something like "starting an Internet business" or phrases with more than 1 or 2 words.
Getting quality one-way anchor text back links can be done in numerous places. Here is a partial list of ways you can link back to your website with anchor text.
1. In the resource box of any article marketing you are doing hyperlink your website address to your anchor text phrase. As opposed to listing your website URL you may even want to hyperlink to keyword phrases when allowed by the article directories.
2. When doing forum marketing create a signature file and hyperlink text phrases in it. This is a great way to link to additional pages beyond your homepage.
3. When posting on blog comments in the name field list your keyword phrase as opposed to your personal name. When making the blog post put your name at the bottom of your comment. Most blog owners will allow this and you've just created a one way anchor text backlink.
