How to Get Good Handles in Basketball

If you want to know how to get good handles in basketball you have come to the right place. In fact, if you want to get "crazy" handles in basketball I'll show you how to do that too.

In basketball, dribbling is your keys to the castle. It allows you to get anywhere you want on the court. But the problem is most players aren't that good with the ball and don't have a clue what it really takes to have a "sick" dribble. So I'm going to give you a few pointers and a free pass to travel anywhere you want on the basketball court.

Master the low dribble

When you're in traffic you will need to master dribbling low. If you can't do this, then the defense will strip the ball from you when you are in congested areas. Call the cops! No but seriously, if you don't want to get the ball stolen you will need to work on dribbling the ball low to the ground when you're in traffic. That can be either when you're in the lane or handling the ball against defensive pressure.

I recommend you start out by setting up an obstacle course on the court when practicing. When I say obstacle course, I mean maybe setting up cones or chairs in various spots on the court. Then work on using your low dribble to get around these obstacles. Practice dribbling low daily. Also, keep your head up. The key to having a good handle is being able to see the floor. You won't know if the defense is closing in on you if you can't see them.

Work on the basics

Here are a couple of moves that many players aren't good at but are moves that you'll want to master:

1. The between-the-legs dribble
2. The spin move
3. The stutter step move

The between-the-legs move is one that is used by a lot of players to show boat. But used correctly it is a tough move to guard. The idea behind this move is you want to change direction. You also want to set up the move by rocking your shoulder if possible. The actual move should be a low dribble between your legs. If you dribble too high the defense will be able to pick your pockets.

The spin move is a great move to use in the back court. However, I don't recommend spinning too much in the front court. It is good for breaking defensive pressure, but if used improperly you can get the ball picked off. Master this move by working on it in an obstacle course like I mentioned above.

The stutter step move is great because it freezes the defense. Today, I don't see many players using this move too much. Maybe because it is so simple and most players like to be flashy. If used correctly, you can really freeze the defense. Once you have the defense frozen you can do what you want at that point.

With these three moves you'll of course want to work on adding combinations too. But these basic moves are really some of the first steps to getting good with the ball and being unstoppable.

So go out and work on these along with your low dribble and you'll start to notice how defenders start to have trouble guarding you.

I have figured out more sneaky ways how to get good handles in basketball that will have you handling the ball like a yo-yo on a string in 4 weeks or less. Visit my site for the Free mini-course at http://DribblingSecrets.com now.
