Regardless of what you might think, just because your relationship has ended, that doesn't necessarily mean it's over. Most of us have heard stories from others of a couple who broke up, only to reunite later happier than ever. Naturally if you still love your ex, you want that couple to be you two. It can be. As long as you know what strategies you need to employ to get back an ex lover, you can have that happy ending with them that you've always wished for.

The very first step you have to take towards getting back the person you love is to accept that the relationship has ended, at least for now. Trying to hold onto something that isn't there anymore won't help you at all. In fact, it will only cloud your judgment and complicate what you're feeling. If your lover told you that they need some time or space, give it to them. Don't continually try and contact them to talk about what went wrong. Stop sending them text messages or emails asking them to work it out. They have already told you what they need and you now need to respect that. Just because you won't be talking to them for some time does not mean that they'll find someone new or the relationship is completely done. It just means that they're struggling with their emotions too and need to think things through. Show them you care enough about them to give them that.

Next, you've got to take a good, long look in the mirror and evaluate what you see. This has little to do with the way you look. It's about what's going on inside of you. Think about how you were when you two were together. Did you do things that annoyed or frustrated your partner? If you did, you need to own up to those and apologize. You also have to make a promise to yourself that you won't behave that way again. Instead of announcing to your ex that you've changed, show them. Let them see the new and improved version of you when you two do eventually talk again. They'll be impressed and it will remind them of the qualities they saw in you that first attracted you to them.
