Curly hair looks stunning when it is in it's best condition but too often than not we suffer from the dreaded frizz - so how can we prevent this hair demon? I'm not going to sit here and write that it is simple to avoid - because that is not always the case and I know that some of you would have tried and tested a billion things already to fight it. Curly haired ladies do have to give a higher dosage of TLC to keep frizz at bay and keep their hair in tip top condition.
I say it is not simple, but by that I mean we cannot simply neglect our hair's needs one day and try and make up for it the next. Ladies - get yourself into a routine. Know the basics of what manageable, frizz-free hair needs and incorporate it into a routine. Unruly and frizzy hair can be a real drag and like pimples - it always seems to occur at the worst possible times. I can guarantee that once you understand your hair and know how to treat it, frizz will be a tale of the past and you can concentrate on the more important things in life.
The Number one rule to banish frizz is to keep the hair moisturized. Curly hair tends to sway towards the more dry types of hair and special care should be taken to ensure it is getting the moisture it needs. Following up from this, short term solutions such as using straightening irons will only create further stress on the hair and you will end up with more frizzy hair - limit the use of such heat application to absolute emergencies! Trust me!
Don't be fooled into thinking you have to wash the hair everyday - this is a myth and what it does is strip the hair of it's natural oils. Your dry, frizzy hair being stripped of it's natural oils? Not a good thing. Wash the hair every third day if you can get away with it - but no more than every second. It is important to remember that when you do wash your hair - always condition with a moisturizing conditioner. You might want to ask your hair stylist for some good products, hopefully she will be honest with you and not just try to sell you the most expensive bottle on the rack - they are not always the best. After carefully washing and conditioning your hair, dry it by blotting the hair gently with a towel as opposed to rubbing or twisting. Just do this enough until the water stops to drip - then comb it with a comb or brush designed for curly heads.
An essential to any curly girls hair kit is a leave in conditioner. They can be applied after partially drying the hair and combed through it's length. You could tame the hair by braiding it at his stage - especially if you are washing before bedtime. When you take your hair out in the morning it should be just a case of working the curls with your fingers and perhaps a touch of mousse to keep frizz from surfacing. You could use a little of your spray in conditioner whenever you need to brush or comb - which will prevent pulling and snagging and of course frizz. It helps too, to brush the hair in sections rather than dragging it through the whole length.
I hope these fundamental tips of beating frizz has reminded you how important the basics in hair care really are - I wish you luck in fighting the frizz.
