How to Fix Car Rust

Corroding or rusting can have serious damaging effects on your car. It not only spoils the overall appearance, but also makes it difficult to sell the vehicle off in future. Although the natural process of rusting cannot be purged completely, you can take measures to fix rust holes and spots on the car.

Rust Spots:
Mark all the rust holes that need to be fixed. Eliminate all the rust from car surface using a sanding wheel attached to a hand-held electrical grinder. You can also do away with the rust using sandpaper with loose grit or a strong wire brush. Use special rust removal solvents to wipe out the tiny rust traces left behind. As you do the final finishing work, make sure all dust is wiped out properly from the surface. The car scratches can be fixed by filling them with glazing putty. Then, apply 1-3 coats of primer, as instructed, followed by the paint coats. Give final touches and glossy finish using car wax after the paint is dried completely.

Rust Holes:
The tiny rust holes can be fixed by filling them with suitable fillers, but the larger ones are relatively hard to repair and require a lot of efforts. The area around the hole must be taped well before starting the repair work. Sandpaper or grinder can be then used to do away with the rust in and around the hole. Next, hammer the edges well towards the interior of the car and fix a metal sheet, cut exactly to size, inside it. Use tar sealants to seal the edges. Once dried, cover them up with paint, following the usual process of painting.
