How to Fix Bathroom Walls and Ceilings

It is common for bathroom ceilings and walls to receive damage with passage of time. It is because of the presence of moisture in the bathroom surroundings. Some times you have your paint peel or establishment of mold or damage on drywall are some common examples. It is expensive to hire a professional; you can do it on your own if you have some idea and knowledge about the required material and handling of different situations. This can save you a lot of money. Here are given some direction to fix your bathroom walls and ceilings on your own.

Required Items

- 1 1/4 inch screws
- Drill with screwdriver attachment
- Drywall
- Drywall joint compound
- Drywall mesh tape
- Drywall saw or drywall router
- Drywall taping knives
- Drywall topping compound
- Measuring tape
- Pencil
- Razor knife
- Sanding sponge
- Straight edge

Directions

1. Start with inspecting the condition of the walls and ceilings. Evaluate the damage done to walls and ceilings. Locate any signs of mold on drywalls or inside of the walls. If you find any signs of mold on the drywall, you need to repair it first by removing and replacing entire drywall. If the molding is present on the inner walls, you may have to contact the specialist.

2. Once evaluation of the damage is done, mark the damage parts on the walls or ceilings with pencil and measuring tape. After marking the damage parts, take drywall saw or drywall router and cut the damage parts carefully.

3. Take a new sheet and cut a piece of same size which you have just cut from damaged part. Make sure that the piece is of exact measure to fit in the place. Take a 1 1/4 inch screws and fix the new piece on the drywall with screwdriver attachment.

4. Take a drywall mesh tape and fix it in a way that half of it is on the new piece and half on the existing drywall. Now apply a coat of drywall joint compound with the help of 6 inches drywall taping knife. It should be applied in a way that 4 inches of joint compound spreads on each side of the drywall taping. Leave the joint compound to air dry.

5. When you are sure that joint compound is dry, take a sand sponge and sand the compound until it smoothes. Take 8 inch drywall taping knife and with it apply a coat of drywall topping compound on the sanded area. Drywall topping compound should cover 6 inches on each side of the tape. Let the topping dry for sometime.

6. Sand the topping compound properly and apply 8 inches of topping compound on each side of the mesh tape with 10 inches of drywall taping knife. You have to repeat the same process until you get the entire new patch perfectly merge into the existing drywalls.

Suggestions

You can use spackling compound for small patches results from screws and nail holes. Later sand the spackling compound smooth.
