Anyone looking at ClickBank could be overwhelmed by the variety of potential marketing opportunities on offer for on-line marketing. The problem is choosing profitable niches which will provide a long term revenue stream.
How do you know in advance that the affiliate product you thought was a sure fire money spinner is not actually not a damp squid?
There are a number of ways to evaluate affiliate programs without investing time and effort in creating a website. One option is to create the equivalent of a mini website on a site called Squidoo. Seth Godwin set up Squidoo so that anyone could quickly set up a web page to promote anything they wanted. The site has proved popular because you are not expected to know anything about website design, HTML, CSS etc. You can promote your affiliate products by creating a lens. A lens, in case you are not familiar with the term, is a web page on the Squidoo site. Lens creation is quick and easy with a lens being created in as little as fifteen minutes although in reality good lens would take a least a couple of hours work. So why create a lens rather than a website?
Firstly, it is a question of cost. Even though setting up a website and domain name doesn't cost much it could soon mount up if you decide to promote say a 100 different affiliate products. Even if each site only costs an average of $2 a month to run you still have an overhead of $200 a month without even knowing whether you can cover your costs. On the other hand Squidoo allows you to set up a lens to promote your affiliate products - as many as you want - for free. Then if you find that you are making reasonable sales you can proceed to the next stage by establishing a web site only for those products you know are generating sales.
Besides the potential for affiliate sales Squidoo also has links to eBay and Amazon which are very easy to set up. Any sales from your lens through Amazon or eBay are shared with Squidoo. You can however also set up direct links to these accounts if you wish as well. In that case you would keep all your commissions.
Significant incomes have made been on Squidoo and it is especially user friendly for newbies to Internet marketing. This is the equivalent of paddling in the shallow end of a swimming pool before venturing into the deep end when you haven't yet learned how to swim!
If you have wondered about Internet marketing as an alternative career and you would like the financial rewards and independence success could bring you could also dip a toe in the water.
