How to Create Your Home-Made Soy Candles

Expert Author Ruth Clark

In creating your home-made soy candles, there many ways to consider and it is also compared at times to normal candle waxes. The first and foremost difference is the cost of these waxes and that they have white soot emission compared to paraffin waxes that have black soot, which in turn could be detrimental to our health.

These soy waxes are made of natural, common vegetable wax from soya beans. First, the oils from the soya bean flakes is extracted or taken off and hydrogenised. Soya beans are grown mostly in Illinois, Iowa and Indiana states in America. Since, as mentioned earlier has cleaner air emission than the common paraffin candles.

The wax of a soy candle is the only thing different from the ingredients of the regular candles we have. Everything else, like the process or how it is being prepared is quite the same as those of the regular more common wax candles. Using a double boiler, meaning a big casserole with water and placed in it a smaller one with the soy wax, would heat up and dissolve the wax into liquid. Place it on top of a stove and heat it about 150 to 180 degrees Fahrenheit.

Remember not to place the heat of the dissolved wax over 150 degrees Fahrenheit, since it would cause your wax to burn or have a yellowish appearance. Now when you finished melting the wax, take the casserole off the heat and add color to your dissolved wax. After that, you can decide if you want to add any perfumes to that. Measure up your perfumes up to 7% of content by weight. So, for every one pound of soy wax, have 1.12 ounces of perfume. Take note not to pace too much perfumes, so you won't make your candles to pool or bleed out. Pour your dissolved wax a in a container with about 95 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit in heat, in order to prevent your home-made candles from cracking.

After noting the similarities of soy candles to the regular candles we have, let's note more on some of their differences. The softer candles are usually the soy candles. This is why they won't be appropriate in making other types of candles. One example of this is the pillar candles. There are also other types like novelty candles, as well as the taper candles, which still count on the softness of the candles made out of soy. However, floating candles are made through soy wax by measuring the 3 inches in diameter, to make it count.

Now, if you happen to be fond of making regular candles, why not try making candles out of soy? You won't regret it once you've tried another candle wax type, you will surely be craving for more new things. You'll really like the effect, since soy candles are more or less healthful than the common candles. Learn to create something new, since every new idea births a new concept and industry for these candles.
