How to Collect Money Online

Expert Author Steve J Gerwig

There are many options when it comes to collecting payment for selling online.

The one I like the best and use the most is PayPal.

You can use a credit card to make or collect payments through PayPal. You can set up an automatic debit to your checking account to make a payment to an online vendor. Or you can deposit money directly into your PayPal account and use that to make payments online.

If you are selling items online, PayPal has a merchant's account that allows you to make a Buy Now button that you can add to your website or even an email that you send to customers. It is easy to set up a recurring payment for your clients if that is one of your business models. They simply click on your Buy Now button and PayPal will walk them through the process of paying step by step.

As most of you know by now PayPal is owned by eBay and they offer seamless integration when selling items through eBay. This makes it much easier when selling on eBay to either make or collect payments for any items bought or sold, if you have a free PayPal account.

While a PayPal account is the best way to start collecting payments when starting online it may be in your best interest to explore other options as your business and revenues grow. Due to fees PayPal collects on every payment made to your account, if you start collecting too much money, it will be cheaper in the long run to use other ways to collect those payments.

If and when you do make the switch, remember to change any related settings on your payment pages on your website or in your emails.

You may want to get help doing this step if you are not familiar with it or just don't have the time. Make sure you get someone experienced and reliable as this is the most important step in your online business.

After setting up your payment system, whatever you chose, make sure you test it before it goes live on your site.

If not implemented properly it will surely lose you money in the end.
