It is a fact the cold brewed coffee is less acidic and a better option for those of us who love to drink coffee, but have sensitive stomachs. This process may take up to 24 hours for your beverage concentrate to be ready to use.
What you will need:
1. Two 32 oz plastic beverage cups ( 2 of the same kind that nest inside one another).
2. Something to make the holes with, such as a push pin or small 1/16 hand drill.
3. Cheesecloth or a coffee-filter (paper or permanent).
4. A storage container for your finished cold brewed coffee that has a lid.
The brewing process:
Begin by taking on e of the plastic cups and piercing the bottom with many holes, using the pushpin. The more holes you pierce, the better.
Then place this newly punctured cup inside the other cup, so they nest snuggly.
Pour 1 1/2 cups of filtered water into the nested cups, and add the same amount (1 ½ cups) of coarsely ground coffee.
Stir gently to mix and wet all the grounds evenly.
Cover this mixture and let it sit overnight to brew, undisturbed.
After 18-24 hours, slowly lift out the inner cup, allowing the brewed mixture to drain into the remaining cup below.
When as much coffee-concentrate has dripped into the whole outside cup, use a square of cheesecloth, a paper or permanent type filter to strain the coffee as you pour the remaining brew from cup to another.
How to store your cold brew coffee:
This makes a coffee-concentrate that will keep refrigerated for up to 2 weeks.
To use the cold brew concentrate simply add 1 oz. to a mug of hot water, adjust to suit your taste.
Several manufacturers make simple devises that work much the same way (without any mess) to cold brew your coffee. If you plan on making coffee this way, you may want to consider a brewer that is designed to make light of this process for you.
