There is no such thing as a perfect person or a perfect puppy, only the right puppy for the right person. Everyone loves the stories of puppy's as presents on Christmas morning. No one thinks about a puppy's tendencies to chew shoes, having accidents throughout your home or the never ending supply of energy that they will have. However, bringing a pet into your home can be a truly rewarding thing. How do you match the right dog with the right owner(s)? It all depends on where you live, your family and sometimes even your health.
If you live in an apartment community there is the obvious concern of size when it comes to adding a furry member to your family. Many communities now allow dogs as large as 65 lbs. This can allow you to adopt as large a breed as a boxer which can make a great apartment pet. This breed is very playful and protective. Among boxers some smaller breeds, great for apartments, are Boston Terriers and Chihuahuas. Size may not be the only factor for you and your family when looking for a puppy.
For those with children, temperament is everything. Great family dogs are those gentle in nature like the Golden Retriever or Labrador Retriever. These are the obvious and most popular choices for family dogs. If you are looking for a more original breed, your family may love the Newfoundland. This is a large, sluggish water loving dog. However, what about the family members who are allergic to most furry friends?
Though your family may want a puppy, for those suffering with allergies to pet dander, welcoming a four legged family member can seem nearly impossible. There is hope with a long list of Hypoallergenic puppies just for you. Small, white and cuddly is the Maltese and we are all familiar with the curls of the Poodle which shed very little or not at all. Large furry and protective is the Bergamasco which does not shed at all.
If you are a dog lover in a small apartment home, a couple of children running around or suffering from allergies, then trust that there a dog breed out there just for you. With a little research and patience through the puppy years you can find a wonderful relationship and companionship by adding a four legged family member.
