How to Choose a Spa

There are many different types of spas - some focussed on detox and others on pampering. Here are 5 steps to ensure you end up in the right place.

  1. Is it nearby? If you are looking for a spa day package, you probably do not want to travel hundreds of miles in each direction for some luxury pampering. Sitting and sweating in a traffic jam on the way home from your relaxing day is hardly the ideal way to round off the experience. Do a search in your favoured search engines for spa's in your vicinity to ensure you are short listing the most convenient locations.
  2. What facilities are available? Are you expecting a relaxing pool? If so you had better check to make sure there is one available. Are you expecting ham sandwiches and champagne? If so you do not want to head to a teetotal, vegetarian spa.
  3. Which treatments are you interested in? Check to ensure that the treatments that tickle your fancy are available at your chosen spa. Give them a ring to see if they are available on the day you want to visit. Some spas are pretty exclusive and only allow a few guests per day - do not be disappointed by booking too late.
  4. Can you find testimonials or customer reviews? A really good way to confirm you are short listing a good spa is to check for testimonials on their website or to check for customer reviews at independent review sites to ensure that they are entirely honest.
  5. How exclusive is it? If you want to be pampered, do you really want to be surrounded by hundreds of other people? Alternatively, do you enjoy the anonymity of a crowd - would you rather a larger spa.
These are just a few things to consider in your quest for the perfect spa. Word of mouth is often best but if that is not available, good research is your best friend.
