To decide what your domain name should be first you have to know what you want your website to do for you.
Do you know what i mean? Start by answering these questions:
1) Do you want your site, to build a Name for your Business?
or
2) Do you want to be looked at by Google?
Well come back, if you want to build brand for yourself or your small business the your domain name should have your name or your brands name in it. Simple right? But what happens if your name is already taken on the net? What should you do? Well you can go with .net, .org., me.cc and more but you want to try and stay with the.com.
So if you want mycarstereo.com. and its taken then try my-car-stereo.com, do you get the idea?
If you want to be found by the search engines then I assume you want to get free traffic, so let me start by saying that having a relevant domain name will help with ranking, but your domain name by itself won't get you the first spot on Google, Ok?
For you that want to make your money online then i assume that you have a niche market, then your domain name should include your main Keywords your are trying to be found for, if you have a soup recipe site then you want to have something like this souprecipes.com., if you find that your niche is very competitive you might want to be more specific.
Use a key word tool to find the recipe that gets the most searches like, cabbage soup, chicken soup, potato soup, etc etc. Include one of those sub words in your domain name like, cabbagesoup.com. Do you get it? They might be less competitive and easier to get ranked for.
