If you are thinking of buying yourself a new sofa then you are probably dreading it! Lets face it, most of us don't look forward to buying new sofas because most of the time it was quite a stressful experience. However if you follow these three simple rules you'll find that it is much easier than you think!

1. First of all, set yourself a strict budget! This isn't for the reason that many people expect - I'm not saying you're going to spend too much money. However if you don't have a budget how are you even going to start narrowing down your options? By choosing the a budget you automatically cut out a large portion of the possible sofas. This will make it much easier for you to make your final choice.

2. Look at the style of not just your lounge but of the whole house. In an ideal world your entire house would be coordinated to the same kind of decor so you should consider how your sofa is going to fit in. Do you have a more traditional house? If so then a dark leather sofa may be a good option? What about a more contemporary decorated house? maybe a white leather sofa would be a good idea. There are no rules when you are buying sofas but you'll want to make sure you have in mind what you want to buy before you start looking otherwise you could end up spending endless amounts of time looking at the options.

3. Use the Internet but don't rely on it! The Internet is a great tool for comparing prices and looking at lots of different styles of sofa, but to get a real feel for what a sofa is like you really need to go and look at it "in the flesh". for this reason I always start by looking on the Internet to get an idea of price ranges and styles and then take this knowledge with me into local furniture stores. However you may find that you can get better deals on the Internet so it is definitely worth looking there once you've found a sofa you like.

If you follow these three tips and think carefully about which kind of sofa is right for you and your family then you can't go wrong! While the more research you do the more chance you have of getting the right sofa, don't try and look at every single sofa available but narrow down your options first.
