How to Breed Fish in a Tropical Fish Tank

Expert Author Anton Figueroa

If you have a tropical fish tank at your home then you must be familiar with angelfish. They are the most beautiful and most liked amongst the tropical fish tank enthusiasts. They can be bred easily and do not need a lot of care.

Angelfish have a great characteristic of changing the color according to their changing mood. If you might have same colored fish, you might have different colored ones even then because of their different moods.

These angelfish are very diverse in nature. Their feed can include bloodworms, flakes or beef heart mixtures. If you have a tank of a capacity around 30 gallons, you may keep a group of 6 small sized fish. The water temperature should be around 80degree Fahrenheit.

These fish start mating after about 6 months. This is the time that they mark their territories and boundaries. When they do so then they attack any other fish entering their territory. So, it will be better to put fish in separate tanks once they start mating.

Angelfish, being tropical in nature, adds to the number of fish one already has. Eighty two degrees Fahrenheit is the ideal temperature for breeding them. You would notice that one of the two has the belly swollen in about 10 days. This is your female. On both of the fish, papilla will emerge. Male has a smaller papilla than female. Let them stay in whatever way they want and do not make any distractions for them. An important thing, here is to note the mating habits. You should also note down the one that lays eggs and the one that fertilizes. You would see that after spawning takes place, the eggs change color and turn white. If their color doesn't change then you may try again.

The eggs take around three days to hatch. Once they have hatched and the fry are out then keep the parents with them for a couple of days before moving them out to old tropical fish tank. The parents do not need to stay with the fry for too long. You may take them out and they can be taken out. They are, then, ready to bread again.
