Print This Article Ezine Publisher Send To Friends Add To Favorites Post A Comment Suggest Topic Report Author

Bookbinding is becoming one of the best hobbies to spend time on. Many people have found it great and continuing to improve their skills in this area. It is also being appreciated by authors who are not able to afford the publishing houses. All this is happening because bookbinding is a fun and easy way to make your own books. Who wouldn't be happy by seeing a book and saying that I made that book completely from writing to binding. It gives a great sense of accomplishment.

There are many people who are asking How to bind a book? Can I bind my own book ? Will it be like the one we buy from bookstores?

The answers are simple and straight forward. You can definitely bind your own books and they will be like those from publishing houses. I will give a brief explanation on the simple ways you can bind a book for starting out with this hobby.

1) Staple the book:

This is the simplest method to bind a book. You can use this for notebooks. Take stack of papers and fold them so that the two corners meet. Use a thick paper or card papers for the cover. Cover the papers with this. If the book is small you can use a small stapler for center stapling. For long books you can use a long arm stapler or saddle stapler.

2) Saddle stitching:

Saddle stitching a book is easy and the book will be strongly bound. Keep a stack of papers and cover together just like in the above case. Make holes with a sharp object on the spine. You can make 2 holes nearer to the edges of spine and stitch with a strong thread. You can also make three or four holes and stitch accordingly. This will hold the book together nicely.

3) Perfect binding:

In this method you hold a stack of signatures together. Clamp them together. Apply a strong glue on the spine and allow it to dry. Then apply the glue again and attach the cover firmly. Hold this position with a clamp till it dries completely.

The above three are the best for starters. The plus point in them is that they are easy and you can do it on your own. You will not need any help from others. Practice these for sometime and become perfect. You can then learn several different methods of bookbinding.
