How to Begin to Train Your Horse - Types of Equestrian Training

Article #2

Training as an Equestrian can be something that will be quite difficult. Because when you train horses you will not only need to include those directions that you need to give to the horse, but the rewards that should be given as well. Each time that you give your horse an instruction it will create a bond that will be closer. Listed below you will find the steps to take in training your horse.

List of types of equestrian training:

Horseback Riding Lessons - This type of lesson will be used only by those who plan on riding a horse. The lessons you will learn will allow you to learn the secure way to ride a horse and how to ride it correctly.

As a beginner the rider will learn the right way to balance on the back of their horse, not allowing them to hold back the horse or for it to lose any of its balance. In this process the rider will have a lunge line that will be attached to them. It will be used as security and to allow them to learn the right balance that should be used while riding the horse. Also will allow the learning of steering as well. Here the rider will learn how to make the horse dance and be controlled. After you succeed in this step of training you will be able to move on to the next step of the process.

Jumping Lessons- Moving on in your lessons you will learn jumping after you've gotten the balancing down correctly. Here the trainer will have the jumper go over cavalettis or poles. After the first jump is finished the horse will start to walk back and forth to ready themselves for the next jump. At that point there will be a position that the jumper will need to be in to assure they do not fall off the horse. After that the ride will continue to include cross rails, and small verticals. The lessons will get harder as the jumper increases in levels of training.

Dressage Lessons - With this step of the training more will be learned about balance and looking correct on the horse as you ride. This will also make the horse into a more rider-friendly animal. Dressage is something that is extremely important in the process of learning about equestrian riding and training.

After the completion of training the rider will be able to move on and attend events. In which they will be able to show their skills and earn many awards.
