How to Beat Skin Cancer

Skin cancer - sounds nasty doesn't it? Well, take it from me, it's not fun or something to be laughed at. All of us are out in the sun from time to time, some more than others. For some people the demands of their job require them to be outside, for others, it's a personal choice or the result of their favorite recreational activities, like lounging around the pool on a sunny afternoon playing with the kids. And everybody need a little sunshine if their life from time to time to stay healthy - remember Vitamin D.

There are a few simple steps that you can take to help protect your skin and just as importantly the skin of your family. Are you heading out for a day at the beach? A few key items you should remember to take:

Sunscreen - obviously, preferably one with a rating of SPF 15 or higher. And remember you should put it on about 30 minutes before you go out into the sun and reapply it occasionally, especially after you come out of the water.

Beach clothes - you don' have to stay in that swim suit the whole time. Many clothing manufactures make products today designed especially for the beach that are comfortable, look nice, and provide excellent protection.

Hats- one area that many people seem to forget is the top of their heads. Now, if you're bald, putting suntan lotion on top of your head is pretty easy, but if you have a head full of hair it's a little trickier. So make sure you bring along a hat of some kind when that sun starts baking straight down and trying to fry your brains.

Sunglasses - most of remember to bring sunglasses for ourselves because the sun is so bright it's hard to forget them, especially if you're driving. But don't forget a pair of sunglasses for your kids; their eyes are just as sensitive to the sun's rays and just as easily damaged - they just won't complain about how bright the sun is.

Go ahead and enjoy your day at the beach, just make sure you take a few common sense preventative measures to protect your skin and eyes, along with your families and friends.
