Space is often very limited in a corporate environment. Renting business space is very expensive and companies try to cut cost in a variety of ways. Putting two people in a cubicle is one way to maximize the use of space. However, this is much like sharing a dorm room with another person. In order to maintain a good relationship with the person sitting next to you, you are going to need to keep some basic house cleaning rules in mind.
Create a dividing line in the cubicle between one person's space and another person's space. If people are having trouble distinguishing space, then use masking tape to draw a line across the center of the cubicle.
Split the locked drawers 50/50 because typically space to keep items locked up is very limited when it comes to space within a cube.
Keep your side of the cube dust free.
Keep rancid smells to a minimum by keeping your lunch in the refrigerator instead of the desk.
Be considerate when it comes to perfume, cologne, lotion, and body spray.
Avoid talking on speaker phone and always wear a headset when you are talking on the phone.
Always say hello and goodbye to your cube-mate when you get in the office and when you leave for the day.
Do not gossip about them or other people when they are also in the cubicle because you never know if that person might be friend's with the person you are talking about.
Say bless you when the other person sneezes.
If you keep some of these things in mind while you are working, it will make both of your lives much easier. Common courtesy will go a long way when it comes to sharing such a small amount of space.
