The economy is not getting any better and more people are looking for government assistance in their time of need. Second Career is a program offered by employment insurance, to help people get a better education and find a better job. It is an excellent program that can really help you get your life back on track. Employment insurance will extend your benefits for a two year program at any college or training facility. So you do not have to go to school, you can take a course or any kind of training that will put you in a better position to find work.
To get started applying for Second Career, you need to follow a few guidelines to make sure your application is approved and not just denied right away. So you need to pick a school or training facility that is a new career in your life, you cannot go for further training in a field you have already been trained in. Once you have you field of choice ready, you will need to fill out an employment action plan at your local goodwill industries center.
This will give you a referral into the program and will help with the approval of your application. While you are claiming your benefits, do not work or take any part-time hours; use all of the weeks they have given you for your employment insurance claim, this will show you have "barriers to employment". This is very important, if you work ten hours and claim your hours on your employment insurance claim, this will stop you from getting into any employment insurance program. They feel if you can find ten hours then you can find forty, so you do not need to help, which is crazy. So make sure you have all the information you need to get approved the first time when applying for second career.
