How We Can Learn From the Colbert Super PAC

Stephen Colbert has handed over his Super PAC to Jon Stewart and many have wondered if he is risking jail time as they are not allowed to coordinate their efforts. However, the glaring loophole is that they are allowed to communicate via media outlets. Now considering both Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart have their own show, there is no limit to what they can do as far as their coordination goes. This certainly gives them a leg up on the competition to which they have the power to piss all over in the name of good ole clean fun and satire. They are certainly exposing the many contradictions and hypocrisies of the presidential race while also educating many Americans as to how the system works. There are many who would believe a Super PAC was either a very large Pac-Man or some kind of special survival backpack used by Special Forces to take out terrorists before Colbert set up his Super PAC while on the air. Satire it may be, but it is also an educational experience.

An Education in Politics Without the B.S.

Perhaps another enlightening factor to this whole Super PAC thing is the possibility that a celebrity could actually win the presidential race since they have a higher approval rating than elected officials. I'm not sure what this implies as to the confidence the American people have in their government or their ability to be manipulated by celebrities, but surely arguments can be made for both. Jon Huntsman just happened to leave the race when all this went down which does seem a little too coincidental. Stephen Colbert has already shown that he can pull his own weight and has the charisma and capability to gather forces in the way of his loyal fans. In many ways he has a better capability to do this than the presidential candidates who have spent more time bickering about one another than actually addressing the issues. The addition of Jon Stewart only adds to the fun and increases their capacity to make a mockery of the system, like it needed any help, while also creating a fun way to learn the ins and outs of the process.

How Comedy Central Changed the Way We View Politics

Many have thought it a sad state of affairs to learn that many young people were getting there news from Comedy Central than from the actual news, but in fact many would not have cared or learned about world events without them. Twenty four hour news channels have made themselves a mockery with speculative reporting and a lot of screaming and yelling while Comedy Central, by way of Jon Stewart of the Daily Show and Stephen Colbert of the Colbert Report, have actually provided a way to learn about the world around us in a fun and engaging fashion so that we actually want to listen and don't have to feel like we are just supposed to. In the end whether this be a real attempt at Stephen Colbert running for president or simply a mockery of the system through humor and satire we are gaining valuable information and they are actually making the younger generation keep an attention span and learn something about how the United States political system works.
