How User Friendly is Your Web Site?

Expert Author Stephen J Hart

I have been using the internet to advertise my business. It is doing fairly well and I though I had a great web site. But how your site appears on different computers varies from computer to computer. The computer I usually use has 4gb of ram and a download speed of 20mb. When I first got my site online everything looked great. I thought I had designed a great site. How wrong I was. Let me explain.

1 I thought that having a great site was all that I needed to run a great web based business. Then I had a problem with my computer and had to use a different computer. This computer only had 250mb of ram and it was connected to a connection that only had a download speed of 1 mb. When I came to check on my web site on this second computer what a shock I got. It took ages to load and the video feeds would not work. What was going on? I asked myself. It was then that I remember that I was using a slower computer. It took about 30 seconds for the pages to load completely. Now if you use traffic exchanges to view web sites, a high speed computer is great but if you have a slower computer the timer will go on to the next site before your business web site has loaded. This obviously sets a bad impression to anyone working with a slower computer. So what can you do about it?

2 The answer is not to make your site too demanding on the computer. If your site is too full of graphics and video feeds, then it will not be seen by anyone that has a slow computer. The answer to this is to make your squeeze page fairly basic. The way to do this is have a lot of text explaining what your web site is about and possibly put in a small picture to show what they can expect from your site. Then go on to explain that if they have a slow computer, the web site may take time to load when they click on the link to your main web page. That way, if they like the look of your squeeze page, they will be more inclined to wait for your main page to load. That way they will know what to expect from your main page if they decide to click on the link to it. By doing this, you will get more people looking at your web page that are interested in it.

In summary, keep your squeeze page simple and tell them to be patient when they are waiting for your main page to load.

Follow these rules and you will get a lot more views of your web page from people interested in your web page.

Good luck with your business.
