Crates otherwise known as pet carriers come in all different sizes and so it is very important not to get one too small for your cat. Cats are naturally 'free' animals in as much as they are not used to be hemmed in by anything. So if you are having to take your cat with you look into buying the right one to suit not just your needs but the needs and comfort of your cat. There are basically three different types, metal cage like ones, plastic ones that when put together have just one point of entry/exit, and soft sided ones which in themselves have different styles.
The metal Crates tend to be uncomfortable and cumbersome and can be a little scary to your cat. The plastic ones are less so and are also very hygienic as they can be washed down taken apart and stored when not in use. The third one, the soft-sided one is not too foreboding to the cat providing you let it explore it before putting the cat inside it. Put the soft sided version down on the floor, if it has windows with covers then roll the covers up so that your cat can go in an out and still see you. Put one or two things inside it so your cat will be familiar with, like a toy or a blanket, and let the cat explore this 'new' thing. In doing that you might find that your cat would be more than happy to go in to it and sleep. It would help to offer praise to your cat so that it knows it is doing the right thing by investigating this new piece of furniture which in essence is what it would consider that to be, so will want to leave its 'mark' on it to signify its acceptance of it.
If you are relocating and hopefully taking your cat with you then you will need to do some research as to how best carry your pet in particular if you are going abroad as there are specific guidelines that have to be followed concerning the size of the it etc. If you are taking the cat to the Vet that alone can be a traumatic experience for your cat, so to make the journey more palatable going and coming back your cat needs to feel safe and secure in whatever crate you decide to buy. As long as the cat is comfortable inside it and can see you then the journey to and from the Vets or wherever should be an easy transition. Cats do not like change being a creature of habit so it needs you as a responsible pet owner to 'work' with your pet and come to understand their needs.
There are plenty of Retailers on the Internet selling crates so do some research and choose wisely as the crate is not something that will be used too often so it is a case of what is good for you needs to be good for your cat.
