How To Write Descriptions On eBay That Will Drive Bids Through The Roof
Print This Article Ezine Publisher Send To Friends Add To Favorites Post A Comment Suggest Topic Report Author

The very first item in your description should be a clear statement of precisely what you are selling. Let's suppose you are selling a brand-new Apple iPod classic 120 GB (black) and the following accessories:

  • Dock Connector to USB 2.0 Cable
  • JBuds Hi-Fi Noise-Reducing Ear Buds
  • Apple USB Power Adapter
  • Monster iCarPlay Wireless Plus FM Transmitter/Charger

Because you want no confusion about what the bidder is about to bid on, you must include this information in the first paragraph of the auction. If a bidder has to scroll through the whole auction to find out exactly what is included, they will click away and find another seller.

After the basic product overview, move into a full description of the product. I personally like to list any specifications, sizes and weights, or any features that help the bidder understand what he is buying early in the product description.  It's best to do so before the third or forth paragraph.

Among the information you should include:

  • Model or part numbers.
  • Specifications.
  • Brand names/manufacturer's names.
  • Packaging.
  • Size, weight, color, shape.
  • Age and specific condition.

Now it's time to write about the product's benefits.  Tell the bidder why he/she will enjoy or benefit from the product.

Be careful not to confuse the products benefits with the products features. For example,  "This iPod has 20 GB of storage and comes in black, " describes a feature. Look at this description with benefits: "This iPod will be the hit at your parties and will have your friends talking about it for weeks."

Finally, fully describe and disclose any flaws. You can put a positive spin on any shortcomings, but describe and mention them honestly. This will increase your credibility and trust and the number of bids you receive. Also, be sure to include a photo so the buyer can see the flaw for themselves.
