How To Write An Ebook - Title Page and Cover Page

Expert Author GT Allen

One the very first elements of an ebook, and arguably the most important part of the ebook, is the title page and/or the cover page. It's what starts the ebook, it's what sets the proper expectations of the ebook and it's what sells the ebook to perspective readers. In this article, I'm going to break down everything you need to know about title pages and cover pages for ebooks.

There are two ways you can make a title page or cover page.

1. You can make your page text based
2. You can get a graphic designer to make you an image

There are three things every cover or title page should include.

1. The main title.
2. A sub-title.
3. The author name

For a text based cover page, here's what I recommend to do. First, write out the main title of the ebook and use the largest size font that makes sense. For instance, a typical page I create uses Tahoma for everything.

I just like the way Tahoma looks and feels on a page. I use a main title size of 48 (depending on your word processor program of course), I use a sub-title size of 28, and then I put my name below that in size 20.

A graphical image for a cover page should include the same elements, but obviously the design can be whatever you want it to be. You can get title/cover pages created very cheaply from outsourcers.

When the graphical image is completed, either have the graphic designer insert the image for you, or have them send the image to you and you can simply copy and paste the image into the word document.

When you're creating your title/cover page, pay special attention to the main title.

Why?

The main title is the main thing or main idea that people are going to get by reading your ebook. This is where you set clear expectations for your readers.

Next, focus on the sub-title. The sub-title can be the main problem people identify with or what the 'result of the result' will be after reading the ebook. The sub-title should be a statement.

Finally, your name is there to identify who the author is. For text based title pages, I always include something below my name, just to help with branding. I've used things like "Internet Marketer", "Business Owner", etc. You don't have to use anything below your name. It's just a personal preference of mine.

Here are three tips to help you with title pages and cover pages.

1. Always use 'page breaks' to end the title page or cover page.
2. When you have a text based title page or cover page you like, simply copy and paste the title page on your next eBook to save you time.
3. Take a look at other ebooks that you like and use what you like in your title pages and cover pages.

Now you should have everything you need to create high-quality title pages and cover pages.
