Jim has been dutifully going to the gym for two months now. He has been eating right, doing what his fitness trainer has been telling him to do, and he has lost about 10 lbs. to prove it. He was doing just fine, until about a week ago when he noticed his enthusiasm to go to the gym has dropped a tad. Wanting to sleep in a little longer rather than start his routine, fighting that urge to bite into a slice of pizza, and his sweet tooth was acting up all week as well. "Here it goes again", Jim thinks, "I need to find ways on how to stay motivated to lose weight."
Jim is not alone in having difficulty with weight loss motivation. A lot of people are experiencing the rush and deep urge to lose weight and then tire themselves out after a few months, losing that motivation to exercise. It's normal and it is reversible.
Remember to always work with the end goal in mind. Always think about what you want to achieve, put in mind the weight you want to have after this - save it as a reminder on your cellular phone, write it down on your diary - find ways to easily remind yourself of your goal. This way, every time you get tempted to eat a whole tub of ice cream, just grab your phone, look into your personal "reminders" folder and read what you need to lose.
Remember your loved ones. Carry a picture of your kids and family in your wallet, place a photo of your pet in your diary, post a photograph of your friends in your workstation - this way every time you feel the urge to skip going to the gym, you can easily see the faces of the people you are trying to lose weight for. If you pass by your favorite pizza store every day, place a picture of your children in your car to remind yourself that getting healthy and living longer to enjoy life with them is more important than a slice of pizza. How to stay motivated to lose weight is easy when you have your loved ones in mind.
Take a few minutes each day to look at yourself in the mirror. Do this before you start your day. Look in the mirror and tell yourself you are worth every step of the journey. A few minutes is all you need really. Re-assure yourself that what you are doing is right and that you will do just fine today.
The courage to continue with your diet and exercise routine is something you can work on. If you are like Jim and you sometimes wonder how to stay motivated to lose weight, just remember 3 important things: to keep your goal in mind, to think of your loved ones, and to remind yourself that you are doing this for yourself too.
