How To Make A Landing Page To Capture Emails

A landing page, sometimes known as a squeeze page, is a quick and easy way to build up your subscriber list.

The main object of the page is to get your potential client to let you have their email address and give you permission to send them emails relevant to them.

The rules changed recently, so your landing page needs to have a few more elements than it used to. In the "olden days" of 2005 you could get away with a headline, a few bullet pointed "reasons why" and a subscribe button.

Nowadays, you need more elements. The search engines want to think that your landing page is a valuable page in it's own right. You can use any HTML editor to create a landing page, including the free NVU software if you're on a tight budget.

So you'll need to include:

Links to other pages on your site. At the very least you should include a link to your privacy policy and to a contact page. If you can add links to a few relevant articles, all the better.

A free gift to incentivize people to sign up to your email list. Gone are the days when you could just say "sign up for my newsletter" and get subscribers. Offer new subscribers a valuable free report that's difficult to get elsewhere - get one written on Rentacoder or Elance if you don't want to do this yourself.

Make some noise! Most tests show that an audio message that starts immediately the page loads will increase your response. Use Audacity to record the message and one of the free or cheap software programs out there to add it to your page.

Add a picture of someone pointing to the sign-up button. Or at the very least, us a big arrow to point. Tests have shown that this can help increase the number of people signing up from your landing page.
