How To Get In Shape For Your Wedding Date

Expert Author David Grim

You get engaged to your sweetheart. You set the wedding date. Everything is being planned. Then you realize something: somewhere along the way you got way out of shape and don't look as good as should. Since you can't change the day of the wedding (because that church is booked solid for the next 5 months!) there is only one thing you can change - your body. Make a plan immediately and start working your plan so that you can look as good as possible for you special day.

Work Backwards From The Wedding Date

Since you know the day of the wedding, make up some type of countdown clock or calendar so you know how much time you have until the big day. Break it down into months, weeks and days. Usually you will have seven to nine months from engagement to the actual wedding. That is plenty of time to get in shape for your wedding date if you are serious about it.

Get Your Nutrition Plan Figured Out Right Away

If you are planning on losing weight then you will have to make some changes to what you are currently doing because that is obviously not working. The simplest things that you can do are eliminate the foods and drinks that cause your body to store fat. So you should plan on cutting out sugar (including honey, agave and maple syrup), refined carbohydrates, potatoes, rice and grains. Stop eating fast food - you know it's mostly all junk anyway. And eliminate drinking your calories in the form of pop and alcohol. Those are empty calories and can easily derail your efforts.

Adopt A Simple Exercise Program

You have to exercise but you don't have to make it super difficult to follow. You should include some cardio (elliptical machine, Stairmaster, running) and some weight lifting (to tone those muscles up!). If you don't want to lift weights, do some bodyweight exercises instead. Push-ups, chin-ups, air squats, dips and lunges all are great exercises that you can do. You don't have to do this seven days a week either. That is too much. Three or Four days a week for 45-60 minutes is plenty if you do it with intensity. Don't just go through the motions though. Push yourself hard and visualize what results you want to see while you're working out.

Most importantly, make the whole thing fun. Your wedding day is something to cherish. Don't stress out about it too much and take the whole thing in. You'll look great no matter what!
