Being a successful affiliate marketer is easy if you already know which products and offers are profitable. However, if you're new to affiliate marketing, finding hot products to promote can be overwhelming. To avoid wasting money promoting products that people won't buy, you need a plan. Here's a straightforward guide that you can follow:
Perform market research. The only way to know what people want to buy is learn about the consumers and the market. Understand the needs of your audience, whether you should be selling products or services. Generally, any basic need that solves a problem (food, clothing, household products, hygiene products, etc) should be the first ideas you should brainstorm. Aside from products that solve a consumer's problem, the next type of products is the ones they want, such as gadgets.
Do competition analysis. A product may be selling like hotcakes, but it doesn't mean you'll successfully sell it as well. You need to find out how much competition you'll have and develop a plan to become one of the leading providers of that particular market. If you discover that the market has a very high level of competition, then choose another product. Use this data to your advantage.
Generally, a market with high competition often means the product is what consumers need or want. Make sure to check out the advertising strategies of your competition. This helps you determine if you have a chance to get a piece of the pie or not.
Weigh up product demand. After finding out the needs and wants of consumers, analyzing market share and determining the level of competition, another important factor in deciding profitability of products is the consumer demand. This is a tricky part since you can easily check out the competition of other affiliate, but it's hard to know the exact demand for a product before you start advertising it. It really comes down to the consumer.
To gauge the demand of a product, you need to analyze all other information you've collected, including consumer needs, competition level and presence in the market, which you can gauge by checking for that product name or related keywords in a keyword research tool.
Set a budget and develop an advertising plan. How much money and time are you willing to spend on the campaign? If money is no problem and your research has led you to believe that a product is worth pursuing even if it has plenty of competition, then go for it. Before you begin a campaign for your chosen product, learn the ins and out of advertising. Like in a traditional business, the ROI of your advertising expenses should be significant enough to warrant the money and time used.
Don't believe anyone if they say this or that product is the next best thing. Do your homework to determine if the demand is high enough, the competition is low enough, the needs or wants of consumers can be met and if advertising expenses could make or break the entire campaign. Once you understand all these factors, you can easily find a product on online stores like Amazon and weigh its profitability and demand using the guidelines above.
