As the school year starts and schedules get busy many parents are asking themselves what activities are available for my child after school? There are many options available but what if your child's school does not offer any county after school programs?

There is an overwhelming need for extracurricular activities and the fact is they don't need to be in a controlled environment. Check with your local library to see if there are any county after school programs and find out if they have a reading club if your child in interested. You could check with other parents and try to create your own after school program to get your child involved with others. Another social activity that could really teach some life lessons is volunteering. Doing some community service can be a great way for children to learn to help others and make an impact on the community.

If you're worried about physical activity, check with your local recreation center for programs that may be available. Many have after school fitness programs and games that can get your child involved in sports. Usually there are youth leagues and organized activities to help your child get active.

As you can see, you have lots of options, but the key is finding county after school programs that can be fun for your child and rewarding for them as well. Something they can be enthused about and learn lessons that will not only open the door for more activities but create lasting experiences that will advance development and family values.
