LinkedIn is becoming an extremely effective place to meet new people and build your list. Already, there are more than 25 million LinkedIn users from all around the world...and that means traffic for you. If I were you, I wouldn't pass up on this marketing strategy.

Social networking websites are great for building trusting relationships with your prospects...but if you don't do this right...it won't do you any good. So you are going to have to go above and beyond what everyone else is doing and provide some great value. I suggest that you take a look at the people who are already successful using LinkedIn and analyze their strategies. What are they doing that's different? If you can recognize a pattern...you can follow what they're doing and get some free leads to your business.

So grab a pencil and a notepad...because here's exactly what you need to do in order to build and email list with LinkedIn:

1. A truly successful person will have a profile that attracts the right audience. You want your profile to showcase who you are in your industry. Creativity is the key here. Express who you are...what are your passions, hobbies, values, etc...This will ensure that you attract the right people to your profile. There is an option that allows you to write a short headline that can be placed under your name. Make sure that you use a phrase that really tells people who you are. This will ensure that your email list is targeted correctly.

2. Alright, now it gets fun. The next step would be to showcase your expertise and accomplishments...and anything else you find interesting to mention. It's important that you focus on being specific enough that you reach the right people. So if you are an expert dog trainer, don't be afraid to brag about it...if you're the best in your industry, tell them that. Chances are that people will be more likely to join your mailing list if you have something to teach them.

Once you have created an awesome LinkedIn profile...and you have a killer headline, you will want to start searching for people with like interests. Remember, the more people you link to that have similar interests...the more prospects you can get to sign up to your email list. So make sure that you only connect with people interested in what you have to offer and your list will grow steadily over time.

3. OK...this is by far my favorite part of LinkedIn. You have the ability to access conversations that are going on in real time. So if you have some helpful advice to share, you could easily take advantage of this by answering any questions people might be posting. And these people will appreciate you helping them out...just as long as you don't spam them...which you wouldn't do anyway because it would defeat the whole purpose of LinkedIn. So...your goal is to show people how much of an expert you are. That way they will be compelled to find out more about you and join your email list.
