How To Boost Your Self Confidence

Are you confident enough to get to your friends social event before them and be able to walk in and enjoy meeting the other guests? This is a very uncomfortable situation and many of us would wait in our car until our friends arrived. Boosting your self esteem and becoming more confident is an ongoing process for many of us.

Before you can work on strengthening self esteem and build your confidence you must understand what that means for YOU, not your neighbor with the new car or the person at work that was recently promoted. If you don't know what it means for YOU it will be hard to know when you've achieved it. Think about what you would like to accomplish, write it down, and look at the list everyday.

Self-confidence is a state of mind that comes through actions. You can become more confident by becoming a person with a purpose. Find your passion and confidence will soon follow. What difference would it make to your life if you knew, without any doubt, that you could achieve anything? The following steps are suggestions to help you gain your self esteem and build your confidence.

  • Stay calm, relaxed and try to enjoy the uncomfortable situation you are in. This helps to strengthen your confidence.
  • Tolerate a situation you are in where you are uncertain of what the outcome may be. Do not panic, just sit back and ride it out.
  • Do not dwell on what others may think of you. In most cases you are probably wrong anyways.
  • Your imagination creates a 'grand illusion' of they way things should be. Stop thinking everyone else has it made. You have your own way of doing things and that works for you.
  • Attach your desire to have more confidence to very specific situations, events, or tasks. "I want to be able to talk in front of an audience with confidence." or "I want to say what I'm thinking at the next office meeting without thinking my thoughts are worthless."or "I want to be able to socialize and actually dance at the Club this weekend." Write down what your objective is. When you write it down it becomes real and you can focus on creating a great outcome.
  • Stop playing games with your mind. What you say is going to happen is probably what is going to happen. Keep your thoughts positive and remain focused on your objective.
  • From this point forward follow this rule: I will stop putting myself down. Never say or think anything about myself that I don't want to be or come true.

  • True self-confidence does not happen overnight. Everyday presents you with new challenges and opportunities. How you decide to deal with those will provide you with building blocks to accomplish or overcome the next, and the next, and so on. You must always remember that you are a unique individual worthy of respect and you and your thoughts do matter.

    Building your self esteem will lead to self confidence. Become responsible for who you are, what you have, and how you are going to face your day. When you develop self esteem you will be able to take control of your activities, values and discipline. Self esteem brings about self improvement and determination.
