How To Be Safe While Using Your Elliptical

Expert Author Christopher JA Wang

An elliptical is something that many have turned to for exercise. The advantage of the elliptical is that it's much easier on your joints. Since your legs glide with the machine, you won't have as much impact on your ankles, hips, and knees as you would if you were to run. While these machines are better for you joints, you still need to be safe while using them. Find out how to be more safe while using your elliptical.

Have plenty of room for the machine. You don't want to hit the walls as you are using it. Make sure that the machine isn't sliding either. Sometimes as you use it, the elliptical will gradually slide having a higher chance of hitting something in the room over time.

Make sure your children know to not be around it while you are using it. Try to train your pet to stay away. Your child or pet could be hurt if hit with one of the peddles as these are moving quickly and with force.

Be sure that you tighten the bolts on your elliptical every few weeks. Many make the mistake of not doing this and will have it fall apart while in use meaning that there is a chance of becoming hurt. Do not do this to yourself.

Keep your hands on the bars at all times. It's much easier to balance. Normally there are the moving bars and the stable ones. Either way, hang on to something.

Stretch before you workout. The elliptical since it's forcing your legs to go in a certain motion can strain a muscle that is not stretched properly.

Have your doctor approve you for that type of workout before beginning. Most doctors will like the idea of using this machine as it's safer, but you still should get checked out first.
