Most people are unhappy despite being rich as they know how to earn but they do not know how to spend their money. Their main focus is earning money. They often avoid spending money as much as they can since they wish to invest most of their wealth so that they can earn more and become even richer. However, in their quest of earning more, they never get peace and happiness.
One such unhappy businessman decided to learn the secret of spending money from a wise man who was known to be not only wealthy but also very happy.
He approached the wise man and asked, "Sir, I wish to know, how you spend your money?" The wise man said, "I earn Rs 4. I spend Rs 1 on myself, Rs 1 for repayment of my loans, Rs 1 for giving loans and I throw Rs 1 in a well.
The businessman could not understand the mysterious words of the wise man. He requested him to explain.
The wise man said, "I spend one-fourth of the income on myself and my wife. I spend Rs 1 on my parents who have brought me up and now it is time to repay their obligations. I spend Rs 1 on my children. This expenditure is like a loan to them and I hope to get it back in my old age. I spend Rs 1 on giving alms and doing charities which benefits of the poor and needy people of the society. It is because, I have earned everything from the society and I am under moral obligation to give it back to them. I, however, do not expect anything in return. Hence the money spend in the charity is like throwing the money into a well. "
Most people are not happy despite of their wealth because they do not spend their money wisely. Some people spend their entire income on themselves and even live on borrowed money. Most people do not spend sufficient income on their parents since they are under no legal obligation to take care of them. Many people do not spend sufficient money on their children. This led some children to earn their own living at a tender age when actually they must be learning and studying. Many teenagers have to spend their precious time for earning their living since their parents do not want to spend on them. Some teenagers have to even resort to prostitution to bear their expenditure of the university.
Most people spend nothing for the society because they do not find their income sufficed for themselves. They do not even want to pay the income tax, which is their legal obligation to take care of the society. Yet they expect the society to respect them and also take care of them in the time of their need.
Only if you have learned to spend your money wisely, you can get happiness and peace in your life. An imbalance of the income and spending pattern can make a man frustrated even if he has been able to earn hundred times more money than the avenger citizen of his country.
