"Prepare yourself for your Mormon missionary physically, mentally and most importantly emotionally" -- that's the first and very foremost gospel of Mormonism.
Yes, if you are a "would-be" Latter Saints Day Missionary, it is important for you to know and understand the basic fact well enough that serving a Mormon mission demands loads of preparation to be taken at your end; preparation in terms of mental and emotional set-up, prayers, studies, shopping for your new wardrobe, regular check-ups, and the last yet not the least is certainly your physical fitness.
Truth to be told, serving an LDS mission is a highly rigorous task and it requires a lot of physical labor, especially for missionaries who walk and/ or bike the greater part of their mission, and perhaps that's the secret of the excellent physique of the new missionaries. Staying fit and healthy is one of the prime criteria of Mormonism. As a newbie, you need to cut down on all those extra pounds and calories that have been appending over years. You are expected to go on a strict diet and undergo regular exercising and workout schedules. Not much, as a new Mormon missionary, even if you get started with just 30 minutes of walking and make it a part of your daily regimen you get so much to gain in terms of physique, health and fitness.
"Bodies are gifts of God and that keeping them healthy and pure is an important part of being able to progress spiritually" - the oration to the members of the LDS Church, is by far one of the greatest inspirational quotes for LDS missionaries to pamper and take utmost care of their health and physical well-being. Mormon missionaries abide by a strict day-to-day schedule. And as a fresher, you are expected to be all the more disciplined. Regular workouts, intake of fresh fruits and veggies supplemented with the habit of drinking water and fresh fruit juices at constant intervals helps these missionaries maintain an excellent bodily silhouette.
A pious Mormon missionary subsists by a health law - Words of Wisdom - a basic guideline to your health while serving your mission. And as per this principle, missionaries should not turn to any kind of "hot/ strong drinks" namely tea, coffee and liquor and should also not get addicted to drugs and tobacco. In terms of food and diet it says that seasonal fresh fruits and nutritious parsley should be consumed in their season and meat are fine to be eaten but moderately. Grains should be the staple diet of a LDS missionary. Going by the "Words of Wisdom", as pointed out earlier, a Mormon missionary should exercise regularly and get a sound sleep of minimum 6 hours a day.
As per the Mormon church of belief, going by this strict schedule in terms of diet and workout, the Father in Heaven Arts has promised that people will stay healthy not only physically but even mentally. It'll help them maintain a superb corporeal form and gain the full control over their heart and soul.
