How Long Do You Cook Asparagus?

When was the last time you had an asparagus? Asparagus has medicinal properties attached to it. You will normally find them in supermarkets either in white, green or purple color. Out of all the most healthy and famous one is the green one. It is sad to notice that most of you still do not know how to cook it knowing the fact that it is a kind of medicinal herb. You can certainly add it to soups, pasta, pizzas, salads and steamed items.

In case you want to cook it in a microwave, you first need to take a plate and layer the stems neatly. Pour some water maybe 1/4 cup and cover it with another plate making sure that the corners are slightly open for the steam to pass. Now, if you prefer long asparagus place it for seven minutes and chopped ones for a good five minutes provided it does not weigh more than a pound. Once done, let it rest for some time before seasoning it with the dry powder.

Next, if you do not have a microwave you can cook it in a pan. Firstly, fill the pan with water followed by placing the asparagus and cover it with a good lid. Let it boil for a good six minutes and once tender drain off the remaining water and settle it on a plate. Sprinkle salt and pepper or add a good dollop of butter. You can also try this in an oven by preheating it at 400 degree F. Brush some oil on the tray and put the asparagus on it along with a good splash of pepper, garlic and salt. Cook it evenly for 10 minutes, or another 5 minutes if you wish to caramelize it. So, basically the average time for any process should be 5 minutes.
Remember, in order to retain the nutritional value of the green asparagus never overcook it.
