This does not mean that learning from an actual tutor is any less effective, it does mean that more people prefer to learn on their own. Certain instruments do require a personal tutor such as when learning to play the piano, whilst others only need the help of a good internet connection, a computer and some useful videos.

These are normally short; some only a few minutes long and do not cover a whole range of guitar playing techniques.

The videos can be between 30 minutes to an hour per session, and the learner can buy a complete package for a small fee. The download does not take long, with some websites allowing the user to get a taste of the video before purchasing. In the past those who could not afford a decent tutor may have journeyed through the hard road of listening to their favourite tunes over and again, learning tabs, reading through books and spending long hours practising.
