Expert Author Colgan Mckay

If you have a podcast, you are surely doing it to have people listen to you. The thought of going through all the work and not having many people enjoy the content isn't too pleasant. There are ways that you can do some basic promotion and get more listeners to your show.

The first thing you need to do is have a website of some sorts. It doesn't have to be overly complicated by any means. This gives a central place for your listeners to keep in contact with you and you with them. At any point in time you can add features to the site if need be, but just have one.

You will need to understand how to make RSS feeds to work with the various podcast directories. The most important one to submit to at this time is iTunes but many others are popular as well. Get your show feed set up and submitted to all of these to gain listeners.

There are many podcasting sites that have popularity contests. There are thousands of listeners on these sites. Get the listeners of your show to vote on your podcast so that you can be noticed. If you win an award, you have access to many people who might start listening to your show.

Be sure that you upload a video version of your podcast to YouTube and other popular video sites. If you don't record your podcast with a camera, just put a background. This will let you be found on these sites which have many visitors.

Get into social networking a bit. The two that are more important are Twitter and Facebook. These can help you connect with people.

Finally, listen to other shows. The most important thing to note is that if the show is promoting their podcast a certain way, think of a way of emulating it. If you can model other's promotions, you can do well.
