How Do You Prevent Injuries From Overtraining?

When you are training it is very easy to train too much and burn yourself out physically or mentally. Overtraining is a problem that can be solved by following a few general guidelines. Here are some helpful guidelines to help you stay healthy and energized:

- When you are training, be sure to go at your own pace. When you are training with a group of people it is very easy to get swooped up into pushing yourself too far to try and stay up with them. Don't try to stay up with the fastest or strongest in the group. Do not be tempted to train harder than your body is ready to, you will get there soon enough if you stay consistent with your training.

- When you are behind in your training, don't try to catch up. Training to keep your body in top condition is not like trying to cram for a test. If you are behind in your training just take the time you need to catch up. If you try to push yourself too far you could injure yourself if you try to catch up. The way to deal with this is build slow over a period of time.

- In order to prevent overtraining, you need to listen to your body. Your body will tell you what you need to know if you listen close enough. Pushing yourself is good, but be sure to listen to your body and back off if you need to.

- If you need to, you always have the option to reduce or change your training. Having a variety of training can still keep you in shape and make training more enjoyable.

- If you are feeling beat up when you go to bed, have trouble sleeping, and don't feel refreshed in the morning, you may be overtraining. Your body needs rest in order to recharge and grow stronger. If you are not giving it the proper rest that it needs that you will feel it in your training, and it will suffer. Rest is vital, be sure to do it.

- Keeping your reasons and goals in mind while you are training can help with overtraining. If you know what your fitness goals are, and you are on track and doing well, than this could possibly prevent you from pushing too much.
