Starting labor with castor oil is generally thought to work on this premise: the oil stimulates the bowels and aggravates the uterus, which consequently causes the expectant woman to have contractions.

Labor induction entails a process of oil preparation before it is given to the mother for ingestion. It involves masking the savor and scent of this natural oil, which is by origin carries an acrid, unpleasant, and nauseating after taste.

Homemade Recipes for Castor Oil Induction

To help a pregnant woman drink the oil, certain recipes have been created to make the oil smell and taste better. These recipes can vary and can be modified modified in any way, depending on your preference. Most of these make use of smoothies to disguise the aroma of castor oil.

Some of the most common recipes generally recommended by alternative health practitioners and midwives are:

  • Blending the oil with 3-4 oz. of root beer and shaking the mixture to suspend the the oil and release foamy root beer, which tastes good
  • Combining the oil with orange juice and 2 scoops of ice cream
  • Preparing a smoothie by mixing juice, the oil and crushed ice
  • Scrambling the oil with eggs
  • Using baking soda or vodka with the oil
  • Mixing one glass of orange juice with the oil and baking soda
  • Drinking the oil straight, then washing it down with a hot cup of apple juice
  • Add cola with the oil then follow it with eating 2-3 pieces of crackers
These are just some of the easy-to-prepare recipes that you can do when getting castor oil ready for labor induction. Keep in mind, however, that the amount of each ingredient varies on the volume of the drink that you will prepare.

Medical practitioners usually suggest taking an ounce of the oil per dose, which has to be repeated later at various intervals. But this dosage can vary, which can be between 2 to 4 ounces of castor oil for every dose, according to other sources.

To make sure you're taking the proper dosage, consult your midwife or doctor to advise you on the dose that's suitable for your condition.

Want to Use the Oil? Check with Your Doctor First

If you're considering using castor oil to induce labor, it is always best to talk with your doctor or midwife first before drinking the oil. This would ensure your safety and protection from health risks at all times.
