Most of the people I know are pretty busy but they still ask 'How do you burn fat?' Because they are busy, I often give them all the general answer that they should a resistance workout in the morning for about 10 minutes and eat a healthy diet. Since there are many diet and workout plans all over the internet, this article will be about the benefits of doing your workout in the morning and why resistance and not cardio.
Resistance Training over Cardio
I am not saying that cardio is not important. Cardio is needed for healthy lungs and heart. But if you do not have the time for the 30 minutes of cardio at least 3 times a week (usually at a gym, so we are looking at more like an hour), or your joints cannot handle it, then the cardio can wait until you have dropped some weight and increased your motivation.
The rate at which people burn fat is based mainly on their metabolism. A cardio workout will raise your metabolism for a short period of time, about 40-50 minutes past the end of the workout. But resistance training will boost your metabolism for about 4 to 6 hours past the end of the workout.
Resistance training increases your muscle mass which permanently increases your metabolism because muscle burns calories just to maintain itself. Yes, that means that your muscle burns calories even when you are not doing anything.
Why in the Morning?
Studies have shown that a morning workout boosts your metabolism for a longer period of time. There are many other physical benefits of working out in the morning but I feel that the most important reason to work out in the morning is time.
It is possible to do a good resistance workout in about 10 minutes. Work two main muscle groups each morning making sure not to do concentrated workouts on the same muscle group two days in a row. These workouts can also be done at home with a pair of dumbbells and a chair so gym membership is not required (so the 10 minutes is really 10 minutes).
I am talking about basic workouts: dumbbell press, crunches, chair dips, let raises, and many more. They are not hard and they are time tested. They have been around forever for a reason... They work!
So, now there are no excuses about not having time to work out. Anyone can get up 10 minutes earlier if they are serious about losing weight and getting healthier.
How do you burn fat? Eat a healthy diet and do a basic 10 minute resistance work out, 6 days a week, in the morning.
