Are you questioning "how can my marriage survive an affair?" An affair can be a very traumatic event that will stick with you even if you and your spouse determine if your marriage is repairable. There are so many married couples each day that come to the conclusion that their relationship is over because of infidelity. But what those couples do not understand is that the affair is not the cause of the divorce. There must have been other problems in the marriage if a couple is willing to throw away everything and divorce.
Couples can take this opportunity and build a stronger relationship if they are willing to work together and resolve there true marital issues. The purpose is that both of the spouses find ways to make the relationship work and build interaction skills that can keep their relationship fresh and strong.
I have a few areas that you and your spouse can look at if you are both still asking yourselves "how can my marriage survive an affair?"
• Marriages should never be dependent on sex. Your marriage may be doomed to failure if it was based off the sex in the first place. The one and only reason couples should get married for is because they are best friends and have a deep love for each other
• The infidelity is a big identifier to tougher problems in the relationship. They are not necessarily the origin of the problem. It may be vital for you and your spouse to go to therapy to get to the center of your problem and get your relationship back on track.
• Your relationship can be saved if you and your spouse can still communicate with each other. A marriage foundation without interaction will end quickly. Both spouses need to get their feelings out when an affair enters the marriage. You and your spouse need to suck it up and get your problems out on the table.
• A good way to start is to forgive each other for what has happened. I am not saying that you need to start trusting your spouse again. That is something that they are going to need to earn back over time.. Make sure your spouse knows that they are still accountable for the affair, but you shouldn't make your spouse suffer any more than they have during the relationship rebuilding process.
My goal has to been to help you and your spouse get through this tough time and answer your question "how can my marriage survive an affair?" Try to be mindful that you and your spouse are the only ones that can really get yourselves through this trying period. Create a support system for each other that will get you through this affair.
