How Can I Lose Weight and Still Enjoy Food

Expert Author Chris G Wilson

Well if, like me, you really enjoy eating and find it hard to control your weight you may find this interesting.

For many years I never bothered about what I ate or how much exercise I was taking. In my youth I was a very active sportsman and played sports all year round. I just ate what I wanted and as much as I could until I was full. Of course during my rugby years I drank gallons of lovely beer after training and the game.

So I never had to think about what I ate as I was burning it off as fast as I was taking it on.

As the years passed my activity lessened, I gave up rugby and football and work and family took up my time, but my eating habits stayed much the same.

Twenty years on I had a shock which change things for me. It was in the run up to Xmas 2008 and as usual I was looking forward to the usual festivities and all the gorgeous food. But the closer it came the more I became aware of how badly I was feeling and how out of breath I was getting climbing the stairs. So I went for a checkup at the hospital and of course you know what is coming next.

Yes you are officially in the Obese category with high blood pressure high cholesterol and a 1 in 3 chance of dying from a heart attack in the next 10 years!

Wow this was really scary a one in three chance of dying!!! The stress of it made me really worry but not for long. Being a determined sort of guy I decided that I was going to take action. Not just the usual starvation diet until the weight drops off but some life changing action.

In my coaching business I have a very simple set of rules that I use with all my clients made up of 3 steps.

1) get inspired and I really mean inspired. For me that was to improve my life expectancy reading with the doctor to greater than 1 in 50 within a 2year period. That was a massive goal which I did not know how I was going to achieve (I believe it is best not to know how as it forces you to get creative about how you will get there)

2)Take action. Again I mean big action, life changing action even if it is scary. This is ok too because you must find someone or something that will move you towards your goal and keep you at it! I did three things: I joined a gym and got a trainer to work out a fitness plan for me that I could work at. I got a course on nutrition and healthy eating and I followed it. A video based training course that many others had had success with. Finally I told people what I was doing and how I was going to track progress.

3)Work at it and enjoy the journey and your success along the way. Measure and celebrate your progress by sharing it with friends. Some people write a blog as a way of sharing their journey.

So that is exactly what I did and I have had a great year and a half since I started.

Well was I successful, I hear you say? Yes of course I have been successful; I have lost over 45lbs, my cholesterol is normal, my blood pressure is normal, my waistline has dropped by 10inches, I feel fit and a lot healthier. I really enjoy my foods and they are all very nutritious and very tasty. I am really pleased with my progress and I still go to the gym a couple of times a week just to keep toned

So how was my reading this year well it has risen to 1 in 30 chance. Fantastic I am well on my way towards my goal and I have no doubt that I will get there within the next year.

To top it all I just got measured for a new suit and the taylor informed me that my measurements were exactly the same as they were 20 years ago! How cool is that!!

So if you are stuck and want to get into a healthier state and lose weight then follow my simple ruled and I guarantee you will achieve what you desire.
