Entering a forum is much like sitting in an online conference room, where a group of people that are interested in a certain topic or area can interact with each other.
Some people have even referred to forums as an online classroom with several teachers, instead of just one. This may be a closer definition, because these group discussions are well known for their teaching, and learning abilities.
There are hundreds of these study groups available online, and each one is usually tightly focused around the subject at hand. Most forums will require you to register before being able to post.
In a forum, a post is known as a thread. There may be many threads under each subject. All threads can be seen by everyone, so do not post anything that you consider to be of a private nature.
These discussion groups are a must when it comes to internet marketing. When first starting out as an internet marketer you will use these threads as a learning tool. You can learn a lot in these study groups just from reading all of the previous questions that have already been answered.
As you master the art of internet marketing you will have the knowledge to answer questions for others in need of help. This is what we marketer's call "Paying it forward". This is simply our way to give back, in return for the help that we too once received out of kindness.
There is another good reason to make your presence known in these study groups, and that's for exposure. To do this you would simply place a link to your product, or site. Now don't go crazy posting just to get exposure, that's spamming and it will get you banned from most forums.
Instead of blatantly pushing your product, try being informative and give out valuable advice. This will get you noticed in a much brighter light. As an internet marketer, it is your job to inform your customers... not sell to them. Most people do not want to be sold to anyway.
The easiest way to get through to your customers, is by giving them a solution to their problem. How will you know what their problem is? You will learn this from doing research on your particular niche. All of this information, and more can be found in forums.
